We are delighted to introduce Abbie Burke, our warm and welcoming receptionist who manages the front of house at Borders Podiatry and Performance Clinic. Abbie plays a crucial role in ensuring that every patient feels comfortable and supported from the moment they walk through our doors.
A local lass who grew up in Darnick, Abbie’s journey began after leaving school when she studied Child Care, leading her to work at Busy Bees, where she earned her child care qualifications. In her 20s, Abbie took a leap of faith and embarked on an adventure to America, working at a children’s sports camp. During this time, she gained her lifeguard qualification and spent her days by the lake and pool, ensuring the safety of the campers. Abbie also took the opportunity to travel across America, exploring the country with friends she met along the way.
Upon returning home, Abbie nannied for a family for five years and also worked locally, teaching children how to swim. Her passion for working with children eventually brought her back to her roots when she joined St Mary’s School in Melrose, where she had the opportunity to meet Anne, our Clinical Director.
After having her two boys and becoming stepmum to Sophie, Abbie wanted to find a role that allowed her to balance her work with her family life. Anne and Dan offered her the position of receptionist at our clinic, a role that perfectly suited her skills and desire to work around her children’s needs.
Abbie’s experience extends beyond her professional roles. As the mother of her eldest son Max, who is autistic, she has developed a deep understanding and compassion for the autism community. This personal experience allows Abbie to ensure that patients who come to the clinic receive the best possible support, particularly those who may need a little extra care and understanding during their visits.
In addition to her role at the clinic, Abbie has become the running buddy of our Clinical Director, Anne Stewart. The pair recently completed the Loch Ness 24-hour race together, demonstrating not only their commitment to fitness but also the strong bond they share both professionally and personally.
Outside of work, Abbie is a keen runner, an amazing swimmer, and loves going to the gym. She’s a proud dog lover, vegetarian, and follows a gluten-free diet. Abbie is happily married to her husband Mark, and together they enjoy a full and active life with their family.
We are incredibly fortunate to have Abbie as part of our team, where her positive energy, compassion, and dedication to our patients help make Borders Podiatry and Performance Clinic a welcoming and supportive place for all.
