Fascial Manipulation

Fascial manipulation is an incredible treatment method for managing pain, disfunction and abnormal movement patterns. Initially developed by Italian Physiotherapist Luigi Stecco, the treatment specifically looks at fascia which is a three-dimensional connective tissue which surrounds muscles, tendons, organs, nerves and blood vessels and it can often be the cause of musculoskeletal pain and sports injuries. Very few health care professionals in the UK are trained to provide fascial manipulation and there is only a handful of Podiatrists. Our MSK Sports Podiatrist Dan is honoured to be one of these select few and the only Podiatrist in the Scottish Borders. After recently completing his training in Fascial Manipulation (Stecco Method) and attaining a final exam grade of 93%, Dan is now able to offer our patients this ground breaking treatment for lower limb pain and movement dysfunction.

Your initial appointment will take up to an hour and will include your first treatment. During this assessment Dan will discuss with you any current injuries and pain and also any previous injuries and sites of trauma or surgery. There is a saying as Fascial Manipulation, “Old is Gold”, because we often find that the cause of your current injury or pain is due to unresolved injuries and physical trauma’s of the past. The movement and palpation assessments come next, which will help Dan to identify where any issues and Fascial restrictions may be occurring, and then a logical treatment plan will be developed and discussed with you.

Our bodies work around 3 planes of motion (Frontal, Sagittal and Horizontal) and treatment will be carried out in one of these planes of motion, along a longitudinal path to help restore the mobility and movement of the deep fascial layers. Following your treatment we often expect an immediate reduction in pain and improvement in function and Dan will carry out further treatment a week later, either in the same plane of movement or moving to another area of fascial densification/restriction.

Fascial Manipulation can be used to treat various conditions, including; Sciatica, Lower Back Pain, Knee Pain, Shin Splints, Calf Pain/Achilles Tendonitis, Ankle Pain, Plantarfasciitis and pain when walking or running. If you would like to book an appointment please click here.
