Dry Needling

Dry needling is the treatment modality of inserting acupuncture needles into areas of high tissue tension or pain and aim for the myofascial trigger points. Many people would refer to it as acupuncture however it is important to differentiate between dry needling and traditional Chinese acupuncture.

There are a number of suggested mechanism of action such as Tissue Regeneration, stimulation of the local twitch response (this helps to reduce pain), tissue remodelling and causing a small localised stretch. In clinic we find the best use of dry needling is in the treatment of painful musculoskeletal injuries and is great when used in combination with other treatments such as exercise rehabilitation, orthoses and stretching.
